The UNH Youth Symphony Orchestra program is offered by the UNH Music Department in Durham. It is designed for students from grades 4 to 12, with exceptionally strong younger students admitted on a case-by-case basis. Students meet for 75-90 minute rehearsals on Sunday evenings, in age- and ability-grouped ensembles, and give two performances a year. The youth orchestras are led by Dr. David Upham, with assistance from UNH string music education students. Manchester Community Music School's NH Youth String Preparatory Ensemble:
This ensemble is the perfect first step to orchestral playing. It is designed for students in grades 5–8  with at least one year playing experience, no audition is required.
Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:00 – 6:30pm. Students learn how to follow a conductor and play with a string section. Students gain an understanding of playing in tune, mastering melodic and harmonic balance, interpretation of dynamics, tempo and performance etiquette. Deborah Markow leads this ensemble through a progression of repertoire to engage and challenge young players. Ensemble repertoire is tailored to meet the needs of each player while providing the opportunity to gain experience in ensemble playing and improving individual
playing skill. Students gain an appreciation for both classical and contemporary music. Past repertoire includes works by Sibelius, Mozart and Haydn. For more information, please visit our website: mcmusicschool.org

The New Hampshire Fiddle Ensemble, under the direction of Ellen Carlson, is a training orchestra that teaches all the basics of performing and musicianship, both in the traditional manner (learning by ear) and using sheet music. The orchestra is open to musicians of all ages and last year we had over 50 participants ages 8 to 80. We will work on fiddle tunes and sung songs of many styles: American, Irish, Scottish, Swing, Folk, Bluegrass, etc. Music will be available as well as on CDs for those people who play by ear. For the younger musicians we will have a Children's Group for kids 8 to 13. Everyone is expected to be at rehearsals and must be committed to practicing their parts on their own.
Rehearsals start soon in Tilton, Exeter, Conway, and Somersworth. People can join up to January, and a Goffstown location will be added. The Ensemble is also open to all ACOUSTIC Instruments and vocalists - guitars, mandolins, etc. very much welcome and needed!! Click here for more information:
